Tradeshows Will Get You Noticed by Prospective
Clients
There are more
than a couple of reasons to attend tradeshows;
meeting potential clients, making sales and
promoting your business are top reasons.
Meet Your
Buyers
You want to show your products or services to
well-qualified buyers. People who attend trade
shows tend to be serious about buying and are
already interested in what you have to offer. At
a trade show, you meet people who have taken the
time and trouble to attend. They have a vested
interest in reviewing your products. You also
get to meet current customers in person as well
as potential customers and get real feedback and
a feel for how your product or service is
perceived, how it is performing and being used,
and what you can do to make it even more
appealing and useful for your customers.
Closing Sales
Plan ahead for the opportunity to do serious
business selling. Sure, you’ll get plenty of
tire kickers who’ll accept your promotional
items and printed materials and go on to the
next booth. But you’ll also get some live ones
you’ll want to talk to at length and not put on
hold with an “I’ll get back with you on that.”
You have to be prepared for the business
customer who will order from you in bulk and
reorder periodically. If this person sees that
you’re ready to do business efficiently and give
him all your attention, you can do the
transaction right there on the spot. If he
doesn’t get the attention he wants, he’ll leave.
Generating Leads
The meat of attending a trade show is to compile
a follow-up mailing list. This can potentially
result in a return on the investment you made by
attending the trade show. Collect business
cards, write names down on paper, and scan
people's tags. You must build up your mailing
list and follow up immediately upon returning to
the office after the show is over while your
company is still fresh in people's minds.
Following up promptly makes a good second
impression. Whether you simply call or send
additional literature and information, handling
requests quickly show potential clients that you
provide high-quality customer service and value
their time.
Meet the
Press
At a trade show, you can meet with people from
your industry's trade press. They always attend
such events and you will probably never have a
better chance to speak with the top editorial
staff. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet
with distributors, wholesalers, and brokers.
